Independence Day Celebrations 15th Aug 2010

Independence Day is an annual celebration commemorating Independence from the Colonial Rulers and proclaiming self governance. On this special occasion, rich tributes are paid to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives and fought for the freedom of their Motherland. The Independence Day of any country is a moment of pride and glory. On the occasion of India’s 64th Independence Day, we at Valmiki wanted to do something special for the society at large and children in particular. We visited Government Primary School, Anna Nagar, Secunderabad and SIRIA Residential School for orphans, Vanastalipuram, Hyderabad to celebrate the Independence Day with under-privileged children.

Visit to GPS Anna Nagar:

On this occasion we visited Government Primary School and we participated in flag hoisting ceremony by the Lions Club of Hyderabad, harmony members. After the national Anthem, children participated in various cultural programs. Our president Mr.Surya Ganesh Valmiki and Mr.Valmiki Venkata Ramanappa Vice President distributed prizes to the winners. While addressing children and staff of the school, Our President emphasised the need of providing quality education not only in traditional way but also using modern techniques including Audio Visual methods. He told the children that their main aim at this age should be to study hard and play harder. Later we distributed sweets and snacks to the children of the School.

Visit to SIRIA Residential School for Orphans:

We visited SIRIA Residential School for orphans at Vanastalipuram, Hyderabad. Around 140 children reside in this home. This residential care centre takes care of these children by providing them with shelter, food, clothes and education. Our President and Vice President of Valmiki Foundation hoisted the Indian flag. Children sang the National Anthem and then our president, addressed the children and the staff of SIRIA. In his message he praised the SIRIA staff for their unselfish support to the children and in turn their great contribution to the society. He said that everybody should contribute to the betterment of the society in however small way. He also drove down a point that education is a must to all the children and the staffs at SIRIA is doing the nation proud. Children should also take this opportunity and make the best use of the facility and means provided to them.

Later the President distributed prizes to the winners and runners up of different competitions. During the programme the Foundation has distributed 55 pairs of school shoes and educational material like geometry boxes and note books and also provided delicious lunch for children. Apart from that the Foundation also made a donation of Rs 5000/ to SIRIA. All the children and management of SIRIA conveyed their gratitude thanks to Valmiki Foundation and its members.
