Mobile Rural Education Programme (09-07-10 to 15-07-10)

Team from Eden Social Welfare Foundation Taiwan:

Eden Social Welfare Foundation, Taiwan based Foundation, having expertise in spreading awareness in educational programmes in a number of countries viz. China, Thailand, Philippines, Nepal and other countries. On 09-07-2010, a group of 16 volunteers, headed by Ms. Rebecca and Ms. Helen, visited Valmiki Foundation to analyze the situation of education process in rural and urban areas of Andhra Pradesh, India. The young generation of Taiwan, through Eden Social Welfare Foundation, learn about other cultures and are able to connect with issues across the World. Their focus is on education, because they consider that education helps in broadening the perspective of an individual of his/her surrounding, country and the world at large. The Foundation apart from emphasising on education works on other local needs.

Field Visits:

On 09-07-2010 a group of 16 volunteers visited to Valmiki Foundation and they interacted with our President & Secretary. Mr.Surya Ganesh Valmiki, President of Valmiki foundation explained them about various activities like Educational awareness programmes, Health camps in slum areas and distribution of educational material and providing food to the poor and needy children in different schools and rehabilitation centres. Mr.Raj Valmiki, Secretary of Valmiki foundation explained about our future plans like establishment of a Residential rehabilitation centre for poor and needy children and also he explained about their field visits in Andhra Pradesh. Mr.Ranjansood gave a motivational speech to the volunteers and he shared his personal experience in terms of handling the mentally retarded children and tips to teach these kinds of children.

On 10-07-2010 along with Mr.Raj Valmiki all the volunteers attended half day work shop on “Life programme” which was organized by Swamy Sukhabodhananda, founder of Prasanna Trust at Moksha hotel. The work shop is about training the mind for success and satisfaction. Life program is a unique self development program based on spiritual inputs from east and west which make it the best. Sowing the wisdom of physical, mental and spiritual diet and thus creating an enlightened being.

On 10-07-2010 afternoon, the volunteers visited Residential Care Centre for orphans, street children and underprivileged children, run by Hyderabad Council of Human Welfare at Pasha Colony, Manikonda, Hyderabad. Around 150 children were present in the centre. Volunteers spent their valuable time with children for 5 hours. Children recited nursery rhymes and narrated their way of life at the Care Centre and shared their experience of school with the Volunteers. The volunteers shared their countries traditions and certain etiquettes with children. Later they played indoor and outdoor games. The volunteers believe that children learn a lot while playing. They made them realise what a team means, how a team works and how each team member should work with the other member to achieve that ultimate goal, victory. They also mentioned that a loss is not the end of world but a stepping stone for future improvements.

On 11-07-2010 morning the volunteers were taken to Narsaraopet to Visit “Needy Illiterate Children Education” school at Mynampadu (Village) Guntur (Dist). Around 150 children were present at the centre. Volunteers interacted with the children also taught some lessons to the children. Later they played cricket and volley ball with them and in turn children performed light cultural program for the volunteers.

On 14-07-2010 morning the team visited Government Primary & High School at Hampapura (Village), Rapthadu (Mandal), Ananthapur (Dist). They interacted with the children and played some indoor and outdoor games with the children and also they took classes for children. They had lunch along with the children which was provided under mid day meals scheme. They went to the village to know understand culture and traditions of Rural India. Through Valmiki Foundation we donated 50 satchels and 100 workbooks to the children. Children performed some cultural programmes. All the staff and Mr.Raghavaiah M.E.O and Mr.Kishan Valmiki, Director of Valmiki group participated in this event.

In the afternoon all the Volunteers visited Cheyutha School for physically and mentally challenged Children. They interacted with the children and with the staff to learn the various techniques of teaching. Children later performed some cultural programmes.

In the evening the team visited Rotary English Medium School run by Rotary club. They interacted with the teachers, children and also with the Rotary club members. Through Valmiki Foundation we have provided 50 satchels and 100 workbooks to poor and needy children. In this programme Rtn. Venu Gopal Reddy President of Rotary club, Mrs.Nagaratnamma and Mr.Kishan Valmiki Director of Valmiki Group participated in this great event.

The team from Eden Social Welfare Foundation was very appreciative of the effort put in by the NGOs in imparting education to underprivileged children. They pointed out that these children need special care, in terms of adopting special teaching methods based on audio-visuals, interaction and teaching through play session. From their experience they suggested that the children be subjected to other creative field viz. music, dramatics, clay moulding, where the child learns to concentrate and also helps him to get his latent talent to the fore.
