Valmiki Egg Bank

Empowering Vulnerable Children through Valmiki Foundation’s Brain Child Project “Egg Bank” Initiative In a noble effort to address the issue of malnutrition among underprivileged children, the Valmiki Foundation, a renowned non-profit organization, has launched the “Egg Bank” project, supported by Pratyusha Support.
Many orphanages and NGOs in the twin cities and across the state struggle to provide proper nutrition to the children under their care. While government schemes like midday meals and initiatives like Akshaya Patra from ISKCON provide regular sustenance, a significant number of destitute children are merely surviving on inadequate meals, lacking essential nutrients.
Recognizing this dire need, the Valmiki Foundation, which operates the Valmiki Gurukul, a home for destitute children, set out to address the issue of nutritional deficiency. The foundation’s search for donors who could contribute eggs on a regular basis led to the inception of the “Egg Bank” project.
The primary objective of the “Egg Bank” is to not only serve the children of the Valmiki Gurukul but also extend support to other NGOs and orphanages in the region and, eventually, across the state of Telangana and beyond. The foundation is seeking partnerships with the poultry industry, urging them to contribute a percentage of their production under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The project received a significant boost when a donor came forward and pledged a donation of 50,000 eggs, which the Valmiki Foundation used to kickstart the “Egg Bank.” Unfortunately, the foundation has encountered instances where some agencies and corporates have leveraged the publicity without fulfilling their promises, which is a setback they are determined to overcome.
To date, the Valmiki Foundation has distributed approximately 40,000 eggs to various NGOs in and around the city of Hyderabad. The foundation has also reached out to the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) for support, but the response has been disappointing, with the NECC seemingly focused on marketing activities rather than addressing CSR initiatives like the “Egg Bank.”
Despite the challenges, the Valmiki Foundation remains unwavering in its commitment to the “Egg Bank” project. The foundation is seeking further support from the poultry industry, as well as other corporate entities and individuals, to ensure the sustainability and expansion of this initiative across Telangana and eventually nationwide.
This project stands as a testament to the Valmiki Foundation’s dedication to empowering vulnerable children by addressing their nutritional needs. Through the “Egg Bank,” the foundation aims to provide a steady supply of this essential food item to NGOs and orphanages, ultimately improving the health and well-being of the children in their care.
